Originally from New York, August Berger is a professional Musician and Educator who enjoys a rich musical life in South Florida.
As a freelance Bassist, August has performed with the Southwest Florida Symphony, Palm Beach Opera, and Symphony of the Americas. He has appeared at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and locally at the Arsht Center, Broward Center, and Kravis Center. Most recently, he appeared as Double Bass Soloist with the Florida Youth Orchestra performing the Concerto for Two Cellos by Vivaldi alongside Cellist Claudio Jaffe. |
Mr. Berger is a unique educator who draws from his knowledge and experience across multiple disciplines to teach music students of all ages. He is an Orchestra Teacher and Cello/Bass instructor at North Broward Preparatory School in Coconut Creek where he works with students in grades K-12. He is also a Suzuki certified Cello teacher (book 1 and 2) in North Broward’s Suzuki program. Apart from these appointments, August is an Assistant Conductor and Double Bass coach with the Florida Youth Orchestras where he gives coachings, workshops, and masterclasses.
In addition to his musical training, August is also an experienced practitioner of the Alexander Technique. Since beginning his journey in 2017, he has become a proponent of this life changing process and has applied its principles to all facets of his personal and professional life. His TEDx Talk about his experience as a student has been viewed almost 100,000 times. He is currently a teacher trainee with Sherry Berjeron of the Moving Younger Institute and looks forward to becoming an ATI Certified Teacher near the end of 2022.
August started playing the double bass at age seven through his school music program. Upon entering high school, he became inspired to pursue a career in music and began private lessons with bassist Matthew Schneider at age fourteen. In 2010, he began his undergraduate education at the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College, SUNY. There studied with renowned bassist Timothy Cobb, and received additional masterclasses from Thomas Martin and Enrico Fagone. August graduated summa cum laude in 2014, and was the recipient of the President’s Award for Excellence in Music. He continued his graduate studies in Mr. Cobb’s studio at the Conservatory of Music at Lynn University where he was awarded a full tuition scholarship. He earned his Master of Music degree from Lynn University in 2016.
